The Rules
Updated: 30th October 2008.
These are the rules of Acorn 5-a-side. Slightly different to the FIFA rules for indoor football but they're a bunch of pansies in Switzerland anyway.
1.
There is NO rule 1.
2.
Ball. The ball must remain below head height (of the tallest player) unless:
i) it has rebounded off the goalkeeper.
ii) it has rebounded off the goal post or crossbar.
3.
Foul play. An indirect free-kick is conceded at the point of infringement for:
i) Intentional body contact i.e. charging, pushing, kicking, tripping.
ii) Slide tackling.
iii) Intentional hand-ball, except by the goalkeeper in his area.
iv) Accidental hand-ball by the goalkeeper outside his area (see Special rules for goalkeepers)
v) Heading the ball when it infringes rule 2.
4.
Misconduct. An indirect free-kick is conceded for:
i) Obstruction, including holding the wall.
ii) Time wasting, including holding the ball in a corner.
5.
The goal area. The ball is to be considered "in the area" or "out of the area" when it is entirely one side of the goal area line. When the ball is on the line, it is to be considered "in play" for both outfield players and the goalkeeper. The ball is considered safe when the goalkeeper has it in both hands.
6.
Special rules for goalkeepers.
i) Goalkeepers are not allowed to touch the ground outside their goal areas and must not touch the ball when it is outside of the goal area. Any intentional infringement results in a penalty, accidental (including sliding momentum after a legitimate save) results in an indirect free-kick.
ii) No part of an outfield players body is allowed in the goal area at anytime except under rule 8. Infrigement by the defending team is a penalty; by the attacking team is an indirect free-kick.
iii) Rule iii removed.
iv) The goalkeeper must not be in possession of the ball for more than 10 seconds; infringement results in an indirect free-kick 2 metres outside the front of the area.
v) The goalkeeper must roll or kick the ball out below knee height.
7.
Free-kicks and penalties.
i) Indirect: the ball must be played (touched) by another player before a goal can be scored.
ii) Players from the conceding team must be 2 metres from the ball when the kick is taken. If the kick is from within 2 metres of the goal area line, the distance from the ball is dictated by the maximum distance possible.
iii) When facing a penalty, the goalkeeper must stand on the goal-line and must not move until the kick has been taken. If an infringement results in a saved penalty, the kick shall be re-taken.
iv) The penalty may only take a 2 step run up and must not dummy the goalkeeper. If an infringement results in a scored penalty, the kick shall be re-taken.
8.
Miscellaneous
i) A goal scored from outside the goal area which results in the attacker's momentum carrying him into the goal area is allowed if entry into the goal area is not deliberate and the goalkeeper is not impeded.
ii) If the ball goes through the side or rear of the goal net (i.e. anywhere into the goal other than the front opening) the ball shall be considered dead and play will restart from the relevant goalkeeper.
iii) Goals can not be scored by the attacking team if the shot originates in their half of the pitch and is untouched before scoring. Rebounds or deflections after the shot which ultimately score will be allowed.
Special CRC rule.
No mats.
